District Administration to Hold Karavali Utsav from Dec 23 to Jan 1
Mangaluru: The Karavali Utsav Committee held a press meet at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on September 30.
A discussion to finalize the date and venue for the Karavali Utsav was held under the leadership of Ramanath Rai at the DC office. Some members suggested holding the Utsav at Pilikula, while some had Nehru Maidan in mind and the rest opted for the Kadri Park. Finally, the date and venue were finalized. The Karavali Utsav will be held from December 23 to January 1, at the Kadri Park, Panambur beach, and Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Addressing the gathering, DC Dr Jagadeesha said, “For a successful Karavali Utsav, we have formed 14 committees. The date for the Kambala will be fixed after discussions with the Kambala Committee. The Utsav will be inaugurated on December 23, at the Kadri Park and the exhibition will be inaugurated on the same day at the Karavali Utsav Grounds. On December 24 and 25, Yuva Utsav will be held at Pilikula and from December 30 to 1st January the Beach Utsav will be held. The closing ceremony will be held at the Panambur beach. The sub committees of the Karavali Utsav will be formed within a week and responsibilities will be given to each committee”.
District minister in-charge Ramanath Rai said that the Karavali Utsav should be organised in a systematic way. “The Utsav should attract people and we need to take all the measures to do so. The cultural festival will be organized by the academies.”
MLA J R Lobo said, “The high court has given permission to hold the Kambala, this time we have to hold the Kambala and the venue will be decided soon. During the exhibition, we need to promote handicrafts from the coastal region.”
ADC Kumar welcomed. Mayor Harinath, DCP Law and Order Shantharaju, President of Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino, President of Beary Sahitya Academy Mohammed Haneef, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and others were also present.
