District and City Police Sports Meet Concludes

Mangaluru: The sports meet of the DK District and Mangaluru City Police concluded at the police parade grounds here on January 10.

District police divisions of the City Armed Reserve/District Armed Reserve, Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru South, Mangaluru North, Bantwal-Beltangady, Puttur and the Women Police took part in the two-day sports meet.

DCP Law and order Shantharaju welcomed the gathering. The annual meet hosted various athletic events for the men in Khaki and helped to build the spirit of sportsmanship. Many retired policemen had turned up along with their families to witness the ceremony and possibly relive old memories.

The Police flag was lowered and handed over to the Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar. Later Chandra Sekhar handed over the flag to the SP of DK Bhushan Borase. The Police Commissioner and the SP distributed the prizes to the winners.

Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar speaking on the occasion said, “In these two days the sports meet brought happiness and competitive spirit among the policemen. There were many competitions and most of the police personnel took part in the sports. The sports meet went on well with discipline. It is good to see that the family members of the police personnel have also attended the sports meet and have taken an active part in it”.

Recalling the quote of Jesse Owens “Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust”, Chandra Sekhar said, “Many have exhibited their talents in sports without any practice, if we provide them good training surely they will achieve greater heights. Through sports, we can strengthen our friendship with our colleagues. Our police department is working very hard, and their work is very stressful. When we conduct such meets, it will help the police to forget about the stress. Systematically organising sports meets will develop competitiveness, discipline and sportsman spirit”.

Santhosh Padil, Santhosh Sasihithlu, Pradeep Rai, Manikanta and team performed a skit on corruption, black money, Swacch Mangaluru and safety of women. Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar congratulated the team for performing a meaningful skit and awarded Rs 20,000 for their tremendous performance.

Additional SP Dr Vedamurthy delivered the vote of thanks. DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil and others were also present.
