District Congress celebrates Birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi
Udupi: The Udupi district congress celebrated the Birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the Congress Bhavan on Saturday, November 19.
M Krishnappa state Housing Minister along with Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Speaking on the occasion Minister Krishnappa recalled Indira Gandhi’s sacrifices and yeomen service to the poor and downtrodden. Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi functioned in the fairest manner and became a source of inspiration, not just to the party leaders but to every section of the society. A global leader, she was compared to Durga Devi by Atal Behari Vajpayee. Her leadership qualities were worth emulating. Her contributions to the country could be hardly exaggerated, he added.
District minister In-charge Pramod Madhwaraj recalled the services rendered by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi towards nation building. She was instrumental in streamlining development through changes like the nationalization of banks, twenty point programmes. Following in the footsteps of Indira Gandhi in Karnataka the Siddaramaiah led congress government is committed to eradicating poverty. The state government has decided to give houses to the poor people. Those whose do not have houses will be provided Rs 1.2 lakh under the Basava Vasati Yojana, Rs 20,000 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and Rs 12000 under the Swacch Bharath, he added.
Pramod urged the Housing minister to release Rs ……… Crore under the slum development scheme to Udupi City municipality to develop the slum areas.
