Puttur: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim has taken over the charge of the Puttur city municipal council as its administrator.
This was necessitated by a high court order which has stayed the election of a new president and vice president scheduled to have been held on March 10.
The first half of the tenure of the top two civic posts was getting over and the election for the second half was due this week. But since former president Nellikatte Jagadish Shetty filed a writ petition to stay the election, the high court granted an interim stay up to Mar 10, pending disposal of the petition.
His advocates had argued that his and others’ disqualification for violating the party whip would have precluded his chance of voting in the election, which would have denied him of natural justice.
