District Kannada Rajyotsava Awards Presented to 22 Achievers
Mangaluru: To mark the Kannada Rajyotsava, the district administration held a procession of Kannada Bhuvaneshwari from Jyothi Circle to the Nehru maidan where the Rajyotsava celebrations were held, here on November 1.
The Kannada Rajyotsava programme began with the Naada geethe. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai hoisted the national flag and later inspected the parade. A colourful parade was organized on the occasion.
Delivering the Kannada Rajyotsava address, district minister-in-charge Ramanath Rai highlighted various projects implemented for the development of Dakshina Kannada district.
Rai further said, “Kannada Nadu is a holy land, it is the land of our birth and Kannada has its own identity with its unique tradition and culture. When we celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava on this day, we should respect the Kannada language too.
Briefing on the projects, Rai said that the government has taken all measures to promote Kannada in the district. “Now it is the duty of every individual to implement the Kannada language. Our aim is to build a progressive State and the government has already implemented people-friendly projects, especially for welfare and education. The government has introduced ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ scheme under which 2.39 lakh children have benefited. Under the “Nagara Jyothi” scheme priority has been given to LED bulbs and under the Hosa Belaku scheme, LED bulbs have been distributed at discounted rates. Rs 32 Lakh compensation has been sanctioned to Endosulfan victims in the year 2016-17. In government schools “Shoe Bhagya” scheme has been implemented and in the year 2015-16, shoes and socks worth Rs 2.63 crore have been distributed to 1,08,575 students”.
Rai further said, “It is the duty of every individual to implement the Kannada language. The state government will not compromise in providing quality education to Kannada medium students. Our aim is to build a progressive State and the government has already implemented people-friendly projects, especially for welfare and education. It is the duty of every individual to strive hard to retain the Kannada language. We should be the ambassadors of Kannada by bringing awareness among the youth and the students.”
Deputy Commissioner Dr Jagadeesha, MLA J R Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava, Chief Whip of Karnataka Legislative council Ivan D’Souza, President of Dakshina Kannada District, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Mayor Harinath, Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar, SP Bhushan Borase and other officers were also present.
District Rajyostava awards were presented to 22 achievers by Ramanath Rai on the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the winners in the March past. Students from various schools presented a cultural programme.
