District Maralu Horata Samithi decides to Boycott LS Polls citing Sand Scarcity
Udupi: The Udupi district Maralu Horata Samithi has warned that if the sand issue will not be resolved during the seven-member sand council meeting which will be held on March 14 in DC office we will boycott the Lok Sabha elections across the district.
Speaking at a press meet held at the press club, convener Sathyaraj Birthi said that the district has been suffering from sand scarcity for 10 months. The government, district administration and peoples representatives have totally neglected the common man. If the district administration fails to take a proper decision to resolve the sand issue we will boycott the Lok Sabha elections.
Tempo and truck drivers’ association secretary Raghavendra Shetty said that the deputy commissioner says that she cannot take any decision now because of model code of conduct in force in the district. The Model Code of Conduct is not important for us, the district administration should provide sand to the public. If the district administration fails to provide the sand we will boycott the elections. We can not wait anymore if this problem continues people will face a lot of problems. The district administration and the peoples’ representatives will be held responsible, he warned.
When the matter was brought to the notice of DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati she said that in regard to the sand matter we cannot violate the rules and regulations. If anyone threatens of boycotting the elections because of issues related to sand we are unable to do anything as of now. For one or two persons demand or request we cannot violate the rules and regulations. In the democratic system, we only request the people not to boycott the elections.
