District observes International Yoga Day with Mass Yoga Programmes

District observes International Yoga Day with Mass Yoga Programmes

Udupi: People from different walks of life celebrated the International Yoga Day in the district. Starting with school and college students, the day saw officials and teachers performing Yoga to mark the International Yoga Day on June 21.

The district-level Yoga Day programme was held at the District Indoor Stadium, Ajjarkad. Dinakar Babu President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat along with Sheela K Shetty vice president, Anuradha additional DC inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his message, Dinakar Babu said that Yoga is an ancient Indian practice which is very useful for curing many diseases and health disorders. It is a holistic approach to physical and mental health and well- being. Yoga day is now celebrated internationally and people from more than 170 nations are practicing it. India has been a model to other countries with its rich treasures like Yoga. Yoga is essential for maintaining good health and a sound mind, he added.

Students of various government and private schools and colleges performed Yoga at a programme at Ajjarkad. The RSS and other like-minded associations organized the International Yoga Day programme at Rajangana of Krishna Math where Vishwa Prasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math inaugurated the programme and performed various asanas.

In his address, Swamiji said that Yoga would help improve memory and a strong personality. Our ancestors are said to have practiced Yoga for centuries, leading healthy, functional, disease-free lives as a result. Recent studies have revealed that the activity has a positive impact on the physical as well as the emotional well-being of an individual. It would also give the practitioner peace of mind and good discipline. If practiced from a young age it would help prevent aging and ensure a healthy life. The popularity of Yoga is high even outside India, and Yoga has connected the world with India, he added.

Activists of the Bharatiya Janatha Party Udupi district also performed yoga at a programme conducted by the district BJP at Sheshashayana Hall.

International Day of Yoga was also organized at T M A Pai English Medium School Kunjibettu where Vishwa Prasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math performed different asanas.
