District women congress demands white paper on demonetisation
Udupi: The district women congress activists held a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, January 9 demanding the Central government to issue a white paper on demonetisation.
The activists shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government.
Speaking on the occasion Veronica Cornelio president of the Udupi district women congress said that the note ban decision has created an economic crisis in the country. Modi had promised to unearth black money totalling to Rs 80 lakh crore in just 100 days of coming to power. But it has been two years now and he has failed to bring back even a single rupee. Instead, he has looted hard-earned money of the poor. The country has proved Narendra Modi’s decision wrong, no prime minister in the history of the country had taken such a ‘hurried’ decision.
The government has denied people to use their own hard-earned money. BJP promised to bring back black money from abroad but has cheated people by demonetising the high-value currency notes. While the move did not affect the rich, it has badly affected the poor. Innocent lives have been lost owing to the impact of demonetization.
Most of the people are not able to get the cash even after 50 days after the demonetization move was announced. The prime minister has taken the demonetization move in haste. It has affected a vast number of people; she demanded the Union government to bring out the white paper on demonetisation.
Joythi Hebbar Vice president of women congress said that the prime minister’s speech on the night of December 31 was like a budget speech. The prime minister did not announce any welfare schemes. He didn’t even discuss results of note ban. The people have now realised the truth. Those who waited in long queues to draw their own money will teach a lesson to the BJP in the next election. The prime minister must apologise to the people, Modi does not have the moral right to continue as the prime minister. He should immediately resign, she demanded.
Women Congress leader Shyamala Bhandary, Laxmi Bhat, Chandrika Shetty, Gopi Nayak, Geetha Wagle, Mamatha Shetty, Sujatha Achar, Meenakshi Madhva, Sandhya Thilakraj, Roshni Olivera, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Celina Karkada, district congress leaders M A Gafoor, Dinesh Putran, Amrith Shenoy, Prashanth Poojary, Ramesh Kanchan and others were present.
