District Women’s Congress Pays Homage to children who died at Gorakhpur hospital
Udupi: The Representatives of the Udupi district Mahila Congress paid tributes by holding candles in memory of the children who died at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College Hospital at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh allegedly due to the shortage of oxygen tanks, at the Clock Tower near Service Bus-stand Udupi here on Wednesday, August 16. They condemned the Uttar Pradesh Government for its lethargic attitude.
Addressing the gathering Veronica Cornelio president of the District Women’s Congress said that we are deeply saddened by the incident. The incident that has left the whole nation in grief. What happened there was due to the lapse of the Uttar Pradesh government. She questioned the Chief Minister’s silence in the aftermath of the death of children deaths in his own parliamentary constituency and hometown which has left the state stunned. Until now the UP government did not take the incident seriously. The Government should take it seriously and should announce compensation to every family, she demanded.
Congress Leader Amrith Shenoy said that Today India is becoming a super power country in the world but it is a shame that the UP government failed to provide oxygen facilities in its own government hospital. It is the murder of Humanity; the state government has taken the incident very lightly. After the BJP government came to power in Uttar Pradesh many inhuman incidents have been reported, and the Yogi Adithyanath government is maintaining silence. There is no value for Human life in Uttar Pradesh. Elected governments should uphold humanity, he added.
Condemning BJP chief Amit Shah’s statement at a press conference in Bengaluru that “this is not the first time such an incident has taken place in this large country of ours” Shenoy said, “It is surprising and sad that Amit Shah has described the death of children in Gorakhpur, caused by criminal, official negligence, as a natural calamity, people of the county should now understand the distorted and wrong thinking of the BJP leaders.
