DK and Udupi Districts to make Rahul Gandhi’s Road Show a Success – Ivan D’Souza
Udupi: “Congress president Rahul Gandhi will participate in the road show and public rally in Mangaluru and Udupi on March 20 in the runup to Karnataka assembly elections”, said Ivan D’Souza chief whip of Karnataka legislative council. He was speaking at a press meet held at the Udupi District Congress Bhavan on Saturday, March 17.
Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the coastal districts for the first time after assuming the charge as AICC chief. He will arrive at the Mangaluru International Airport and later proceed to Kaup by chopper. He will inaugurate the National Political Academy at Yermal and thereafter take part in the road show at Yemal and Padubidiri.
From Padubidri Rahul will take part in the road show in Mulky and reach Mangaluru after visiting Suratkal. The mega road show in Mangaluru will begin from Joythi Circle to Nehru Maidan. Later Rahul will address the Congress party workers at the Nehru Maidan in the evening.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar, working President Dinesh Gundurao, Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes, Veerappa Moily and AICC leaders will take part in the programme.
In DK District, we have already held block-level meetings to campaign for the success of Rahul’s road show and rally. We are expecting the participation of more than one lakh party workers in the rally to be held in Mangaluru, he added.
People who were shouting Modi…Modi have now turned to Rahul’s side. After Gujarat and the North East elections it is clear that Rahul Gandhi has become more popular and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity has gone down. After a number of bypoll elections BJP has lost 13 lok sabha seats. The Congress seats in the Lok Sabha have increased from 40 to 48. In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has failed in his own constituency in the recently held Loksabha bypolls, he said.
When asked about himself contesting the elections, Ivan said, “Yes I am interested to contest as a Congress candidate from Moodbidri-Mulki Assembly constituency. The present MLA K Abhayachandra Jain, who is representing Moodbidri-Mulki Vidhana Sabha constituency has already said that he will not be contesting in the next elections. Therefore, I am interested in contesting from there. I wish to be elected from there. But selecting the candidates to stand for elections is left to the high command”, he said.
Mr. Ivan Dsouza and Mr. J.R. Lobo and all eligible Christians should stand for elections so that some educated and ethical people can lead the people of Karnataka. Right now Mr. Oscar Fernandes is an MP from Udupi, who does not want to retire, and has done nothing for Udupi besides coming down from New Delhi just to be photographed inaugurating this and that, which does not
really serve the Christian, Hindu, or Muslim people of Udupi in general.
