DK District to Have ‘Karmika Bhavan’ at Kadri Hills
Mangaluru: “There was a demand to have a Karmika Bhavan from many organizations. I had kept the demand in the Council and the government has accepted our demands and sanctioned Rs 4 crore to construct the Karmika Bhavan at Kadri Hills”, said the Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at his office, MCC here on April 17.
Addressing the mediapersons Ivan said, “In our district there are more than 3 lakh Beedi workers. We will provide training for them in soft skills and employment. We will also start a garment factory to provide them jobs. We also do not have a proper labour office in the district and for the one we have now, we are paying a rent of nearly Rs 1 lakh. The site to construct Karmika Bhavan has been identified and in 11 months the construction of the Bhavan will be completed. This is the seventh district to have the Karmika Bhavan. The contract of the construction has been given to PWD. At present, the government has sanctioned a partial sum of Rs 2.5 crore for the Bhavan”.
Ivan further said, “Rs 60 lakhs have been sanctioned for the renovation of the KPT students Hostel. From this academic year, the evening Polytechnic will begin and the students can take admission for the year 2017-18. There is a long pending demand to develop the Maravoor bridge at a cost of Rs 16 crore, I have submitted a memorandum for the same.”
