DK is Safer for Women Compared to other Districts – Nagalakshmi Bai
Mangaluru: “Dakshina Kannada district is safe for women compared to other districts in the state. We call Dakshina Kannada an intellectuals district but people here are good in blowing out minor issues. The prostitution racket is being operated in the district in some apartments, the police department should take measures to curb the prostitution racket being operated in apartments”, said the Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women Nagalakshmi Bai in a meeting “Prevent violence against women”, held at the DC office here on September 25.
Prof Hilda Rayappan from Prajna Counselling centre said, “In some apartments, young girls are being forced into prostitution. Some educated girls follow the wrong path. We should stop such practices.”
Responding to Prof Hilda Rayappan, Nagalakshmi Bai said, “It is sad to know that prostitution rackets operate in apartments. The Police should identify such apartments and take action against those who operate such rackets.”
Nagalakshmi Bai also said, “There is domestic violence and women suffer inside the four walls. There are atrocities on women, children and the innocent, in such cases, awareness should be created to encourage victims to file cases. Atrocities in school, colleges, Hospitals, industries, Jails, government and private offices should be taken seriously. Priority should be given to the safety of girls and women. Organizations should work hard for the safety of girls and women, they should not operate just for namesake”.
Nagalakshmi Bai ordered the police to hand over the report in Kavya suicide case.
