DK Shivakumar inaugurated Christ statue to please ‘Italian mother’ – Anantkumar Hegde
Bengaluru: Former union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anantkumar Hegde has triggered a row by apparently referring to interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi as ‘Italian lady’ and ‘Italian mother’.
Referring to Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar’s move to inaugurate the statue of Jesus Christ, Hegde tweeted in Kannada and said, “DK Shivakumar inaugurated the Christ Statue to impress Italian lady for party president’s post.”
Hegde suggested that Sonia Gandhi, referring to her as an Italian mother, would accord importance to only those leaders who become Christians. He further called on the Congress leaders to reject the slave mentality of the party.
“INC’s Italian mother will only give importance to those who converted to Christianity. If the INC’s leaders have an ounce of self-respect, they should reject the slavery mentality and the system of the Congress and leave the party,” the BJP leader went on to write further on Twitter.
The remarks are sure to attract criticism from the Congress party.
It may be recalled that the Italian origin of Sonia Gandhi has been a point of major controversy in the past. The issue even resonated during national elections and Sharad Pawar had quit the Congress to float his Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over Sonia Gandhi being made the Congress president.
DK Shivakumar lays foundation stone for world’s tallest Jesus Christ statue
Karnataka Congress MLA DK Shivakumar laid the foundation stone for the carving of the world’s tallest, 114 feet tall statue of Jesus Christ on the occasion of Christmas at Kapalibetta in Harobele village of Kanakapura taluk, Ramnagara.
According to the reports, the statue will come up at Kapalibetta where DK Shivakumar had got 10 acres of land sanctioned by the state government for the Jesus statue. On the occasion of Christman, DK Shivkumar handed over the documents relating to the land to the trust that will shoulder the responsibility of installing the statue. The statue will be made from hard granite.
Reportedly, the total height of the statue will be 114 feet, 13 feet of the statue would be comprised of steps, which have already been laid. The foundation stone laying process was done by worshipping the stone on the right foot segment of the Lord. Christ The Redeemer statue in Rio Di Janeiro, Brazil stands at 98 feet, excluding its 26-feet pedestal.
