DK, Udupi districts bag overall state-level Karate championship

Udupi: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts have won the overall championship in the Boys and Girls respectively in the State-level Karate Championship held at Volakadu Government High School from November 25 to 27.

The Championship was organised under the aegis of the district administration, Department of Public Instruction and Volakadu government High School jointly.

Dinesh Gundu Rao former minister and also working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee addressing the gathering said that both education and sports are equally important for the students.
Sports will promote a spirit of camaraderie, competitiveness, quality, inspiration and satisfaction. Students should study with discipline and determination and pave way for their bright future. Karate can help children know themselves better and build their self-confidence in many ways, he added.

More than 1500 participants from the primary and high schools from 34 districts took part in the event. Accommodation and food for players, team managers and instructors were arranged by the school. The competition was held for the Under-14 category for boys and girls of primary school in five divisions based on weight, while it was held for the Under-17 category for high school boys and girls in nine divisions, based on the weight of the participants.

Nalini Pradeep Rao president of Taluk Panchayat presided over the function. Diwakar Shetty (DDPI), Amrit Shenoy (Working president of the event), Geetha Ravi Shet (Councillor), Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje (president CMC), Nirupamaprasad Shetty (Lioness coordinator) Shruti Shenoy, Dr K Rajgopal Shenoy, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Vishwanath Nayak, Purushotham Shetty, Nithyananda Kemmannu, Ravi Salian, Madhukar S, Seetharam Shetty, Shanker Gowda Patil, Raviraj Nayak, Nirmala B, Kusuma, Subhaschandra Hegde and others were present.
