DK Youth Congress Demands Stringent Punishment to Gang Rape Accused

Mangaluru: “On November 18, at Thota Bengre, seven persons gang-raped a girl which the District Youth Congress condemns. The District has got a bad name because of such people. The accused do not have any religion, such people should get severe punishment”, said the president of District Youth Congress Mithun Rai in a press meet held at the Congress Bhavan Mallikatta here on November 28.

Addressing the mediapersons Mithun Rai said, “DK is an intellectuals district and such incidents bring a bad name to the district. People of the district should teach a befitting lesson to the accused. The Panambur police have succeeded in arresting the accused. From the Panambur police station to Thota Bengre there is a distance of 15 km and Thota Bengre being a tourism destination, people come here from other places. During any untoward incident, for the police to reach the spot will take time, so we have requested the district in-charge minister to open a police outpost there. There are about 20000 people residing in Thota Bengre. The district in-charge minister has already discussed this matter with the home minister and the home minister has assured of setting up a police outpost immediately”.

Mithun Rai further said, “We request the advocates not to fight the cases in favour of the accused. The accused should be severely punished. The victim should get compensation from the government and the district minister in-charge has assured the same. In the seven persons involved in this crime 3 are juveniles, the other four Arun, Riyaz, Prajwal and Aditya should be severely punished. Such an incident should never happen again in our district. We will meet the Police commissioner and submit a memorandum in this regard demanding maximum punishment to the accused. The District Youth Congress will visit and help the victim. In such a situation, the media should expose the accused and they should be condemned by society. In the coming days, such incidents should never happen, we should make our district a safe place to live in.”

Prakash Salian, Girish Alva, Ramanand Poojary, Dinesh, Sawad and others were also present.
