”Don’t Just Live Your Life, Celebrate Your Life’ – Actress Ester Noronha at ‘Aloysian Fest 2019’

 

Mangaluru:   It was again that time of the year that St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru with a history of 138 years in existence hosted ONE of the BIGGEST & MEGA National Level Fest named the “ALOYSIAN FEST 2019” which will run from February 7 to February 9, 2019 in the college premises. St Aloysius College having a history of 138 years, has the motto ‘Lucet et Ardet’ which means ‘Shine to Enkindle’. The institution has committed itself to spread the light of knowledge and wisdom by forming men and women for others who are academically accomplished, emotionally balanced and morally upright powerful source for the transformation of the society.

Hosted a bit late, but as they say “Better Late Than Never”, Aloysian Fest 2019 kicked-off its three-day mega event, with the inaugural ceremony taking place this morning, 7 February 2019 at 9 am, with the programme presided over by the Rector of St. Aloysius institutions, Rev.Fr. Dionysius Vaz, SJ, in the presence of the Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ. Renowned Multilingual Cine Actress, Ms Ester Noronha, hailing from Mangaluru was the Chief Guest, who inaugurated the Fest by unlocking the Treasure Box, containing the logos of the the seven events held during the Fest, joined by other dignitaries on the dais namely- The Rector, College Principal, Dr Narayan Bhat- Coordinator, Dr Ratan Tilak Mohunta- Assistant Cooordinator, Relston Lobo, the President of Students’Council, Fr Melwyn Lobo SJ- College Finance Officer, Dr Alwyn D’sa, Fr Pradeep Anthony SJ, Dr Richard Gonsalves, John Edward D’silva- all Directors, Dr A M Narahari- Registrar, among many others.

This Aloysian Fest – 2019 encompasses fests such as ART-BEAT from the faculty of Arts, ACME from the faculty of Commerce, COMPOSITE from the faculty of BCA, IMPRINTS from the faculty of Science, SPINOUT from the faculty of BBA. In addition to this, there are two more fests, ASTITVA, the Cultural Fest of all the faculties and ALOYSIAD, the Sports Fest. More than 700 students from 70 College are likely to participate in more than 90 events conducted by various faculties”.

Prior to the inauguration, the programme began with a prayer invoking God’s blessing, followed by welcome address by Dr Narayan Bhat, and then the Trophy March, with the College Choir playing the Theme Song. Then it was time to unveil the trophies, after which they were displayed on a stand. In her inaugural address, Actress Ester Noronha said, “It is indeed a privilege for me to be invited here as the Chief Guest, when there are so many eminent people out there. This Fest brings out the energy and talents among youth. I see so much life here, with enthusiastic and energetic students all geared up to unleash their talenst during this 3-day Fest”.

Ms Noronha further said, “When I opened the treasure box, I felt like opening up our life treasure box, because we are treasures tom ourselves, to our family, our community, to the nation and world. This is an institution which provides all the state-of-the-art facilities, Knowledgeable Faculty, Moral Values and much more, and that’s the reason students are eagerly waiting to join this college. You need to keep your interest alive. And during the Fest, winning is not important, but your participation that counts. Academics is important, together you need to shine in co-curricular activities, and Fests like this one, is an opportunity to explore your talents and art. We need to remain human in the process. I like what I am doing, and I always keep myself busy. So I ask you all to indulge yourself in various activities and keep yourself occupied. Don’t Just Live Your Life, Celebrate Your Life”.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Fr Praveen Martis SJ said, “Quoting Chinua Achebe, where he says, “Art is man’s constant effort to create for himself a different order of reality from that which is given to him”. Therefore, Art is an effort to create, beside the real world, a more human world. And this Fest will give the students an ample opportunity to unleash their hidden art, talents in the cultural field, sports field, commerce, and many others. Art, freedom and creativity will change society faster than politics. If you think some people are just born that way (and you’re not one of them), think again. Experts say we all have a wellspring of creative energy. The secret is how to tap it. So make the best use of this 3-day fest, and show what talents you have, and come out in flying colors. Best of luck”.

Rector Fr Dionysius Vas SJ in his presidential address said, “When you really want something, sometimes you have to swim a little deeper. You cant give up just because things don’t come easy. You have to overcome the obstacles and face your fears. But in the end, its all worthwhile. Life is full of ups and down, but if you believe in yourself, you will always come through with flying colors. Value friendship, love and faith. Never underestimate yourself. Believe in yourself! This Fest is one where you can really show your talents and prove your capacities and energy. Wish you all success in your participation in the Fest”.

The vote of thanks was proposed by student Council President-Relston Lobo, and the programme was professionally compered by Miss Tanya Mathai, IIIrd B Com student. Before the formal function ended with the College Anthem, actress Ester Noronha entertained the crowd with the foot-tapping hit number “Despacito” which she had revised in Konkani language, and the crowd gave a loud applaud after her performance, and called for encore. The Valedictory ceremony will be held on February 9, 2019 at 12:00 noon. The program will be presided over by the Principal, Rev. Following are elaborated details of the FEST :

ART-BEAT:

ART-BEAT is conducted by the Arts faculty of the College. There will be 12 different events like standup comedy, debate, fashion show, quiz, economic model making, wealth out of waste, painting and many more. More than 10 Colleges from various parts of the state will be participating in the above competitions.

ASTITVA:

The Cultural and Art Fest common to all streams will be held on 8th & 9th February, 2019. It is a unique fest with events such as Variety Entertainment, JAM, Painting, Turn Coat, Mad Ad and cultural events such as Classical Singing, Classical Dance (Solo and Group) which would bring all the students together to witness a cultural extravaganza. 20 Colleges will be participating in these events.

ACME:

The commerce fest ACME will have 7 events include Best Manager, Human resource, Marketing, Finance, Quiz, Photography, Public relation. 17 colleges participating in these events.

ALOYSIAD:

An inter-collegiate sports fest for men and women with events such as throw ball, basketball, softball, volleyball and football tournaments will be held from 7th & 8th February 2019 at the college grounds. Around 900 participants from 37 Colleges will be participating. There will be 8 Games with 12 events.

COMPOSITE:

The National Level IT fest is organized exclusively by the students of BCA. It provides opportunities to the students with events like IT Manager, IT Quiz, Web Designing, Video Editing, Treasure Hunt, Ice Breaker, Tech Talk, Gaming, Mad-Ad and Coding. There will be a total of 20 colleges to participating this year from Goa, Kerala, Coorg and also nearby areas.

IMPRINTS:

IMPRINTS is the fest of Science Faculty of the College. It is a unique science fests that aims to test young undergraduate science students on their basic knowledge of science in creative, fun and highly intriguing events, spanning over various fields and topics. There will be 10 events and 15 Colleges have confirmed their participation. There will be 10 different events.

SPIN-OUT:

SPINOUT is a National Level Management Fest hosted by the Department of Business Administration and is currently gearing up for its 21st edition and was started way back in 1998. The objective of the SPINOUT is to include and inculcate the premise of management theories and practices into a practical arena and allow students to experience different types of events and gives them a better understanding of the corporate world. The important events include Best Manager, Human Resource, Marketing, Quiz, Finance and a new event called Service Management. There will be a total of 20 colleges to participating this year from Belgaum, Hubli, Goa, Kerala and also nearby areas.
