Don’t misuse #MeToo campaign: Minister Dr Jayamala
Byndoor: District incharge minister Dr Jayamala said on Thursday at Nagoor near Byndoor in Udupi district that the MeToo campaign, a platform for women to voice their grievances, should not be misused.
“The campaign allowing women to express how they were harassed sexually is a welcome move,” Jayamala said, addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of the Congress-JD(S) campaign rally for the Lok Sabha byelection from the Shimoga constituency. The Byndoor Assembly segment comes under the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency. The minister said the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) should earnestly address the issue of sexual harassment raised by actress Shruthi Hariharan against actor Arjun Sarja. The grievances should be addressed legally. Jayamala clarified that she was against agendas that had the objective of defaming a person. Jayamala recollected that when she was heading KFCC, she had insisted on setting up a coordination committee to address the issues of sexual harassment, based on the Vishaka guidelines. Jayamala sought the cooperation of everyone to address the sand crisis.
