Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza Bishop of Mangalore flags off final consignment ‘Mission K2K’ initiated by ICYM Mangalore Diocese

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza Bishop of Mangalore flags off final consignment ‘Mission K2K’ initiated by ICYM Mangalore Diocese

 

Mangaluru: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Mangalore Diocese had initiated humanitarian project named ‘Mission K2K’ on 16th August 2018 towards helping the flood victims in Kerala State and Kodagu District. The youth from 124 parishes of Mangalore Diocese had collected goods, clothes and other non – perishable items like rice, cereals, drinking water bottles, biscuits, soaps, eatables, groceries, sanitary items, medicines toothpaste and brush, dairy products, beverages, blankets, towels, toiletries and all day to day necessary items and dispatched it to ICYM Diocesan Office, Olivet House Jeppu and later sent to the flood-affected areas of Kerala State and Kodagu District.

On Thursday 30th August 2018, Before Flagging off the final set of trucks of Mission K2K, Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza said, “I appreciate the efforts put in by the Catholic youth of Mangalore Diocese towards the flood relief. As Jesus helped the needy and downtrodden, the youth of ICYM have set an example through helping the flood victims in Kerala and Kodagu.

“Goods worth more than Rs 1.5 crore were collected from people of goodwill and sent in 14 trucks to the flood victims in Wayanad, Palakkad, Calicut, Kunttanad, Chenganur, Chalakudi in Kerala and also to places like Suntikoppa, Hattihole, Bettagiri, Madhapura, Somwarpet in Kodagu” said Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza – Director ICYM Mangalore Diocese.

“The motto of ICYM says ‘Leadership through Service’ and we have choked out this initiative in line with our motto. Nearly 45 to 50 youth have strived tirelessly for the success of this mission in helping the needy” says Jaison Pereira, ICYM President of Mangalore Diocese.

Various teams of ICYM youth have also visited the flood-affected areas of Kerala and Kodagu and have extended their helping hand to the needy. This mission was carried out under the guidance of Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza – Director ICYM Mangalore Diocese, Assistant Director Fr Ashwin Cardoza, ICYM President Jaison Periera and his team of youth leaders, E Fernandes, Rohan Pereira and others were present during the occasion.

Bishop-elect Dr Peter Paul Saldanha congratulates the efforts of ICYM youth for initiating Mission K2K

On 21st August 2018, Bishop-Elect Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha paid a visit to ICYM Mangalore Diocesan Office, Olivet House Jeppu and congratulated the youth for initiating Mission K2K – Kudla to Kerala and Kodagu and the efforts put up by the youth as a sign of humanity. In his message, he said “Humanity is the greatest religion” I congratulate the youth for taking up this mission and uplifting humanity.
