Bengaluru: The State Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to provide land to build a 400-bed super-speciality hospital  in Moodanidmaboru Udupi to a firm owned by Abu Dhabi-based Indian businessman B R Shetty.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law minister T B Jayachandra said that the Cabinet gave an in-principle approval to a proposal by B R Shetty Ventures Pvt Ltd to establish a super-speciality hospital and to develop a government community health center at Mudanidamburu village in Udupi district. The company, owned by businessman Dr B R Shetty, has come forward to invest Rs 200 crore for this purpose, the minister said.
The company has asked the government to give a piece of government land located adjacent to the community health center on lease. It has proposed to establish a 400-bed super-speciality hospital and develop the community health center and hand them over to the government for maintenance.
“The Cabinet decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the company after consulting the Law, the Health and Family Welfare and the Finance departments. The land will be given on lease for 30 years. The decision to hand over the community health center will be taken depending on the progress of the project to establish a super-speciality hospital,” he added.
