Dr Jose Marina from Texas-USA and Dr Jalaluddeen of KIMS Conduct TKR
Dr Jose Marina from Precision Orthopaedics, Texas-USA & Dr Jalaluddeen MV- HOD of Orthopaedics at Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) conducted Total Knee Replacement (TKR) procedure with a Live Telecast (audio-visual) during a seminar held at the KIMS auditorium on 9 October 2017.
Mangaluru: Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Natekal, Mangaluru in collaboration with Precision Orthopaedics, Texas, USA and also in association with The Canara Orthopaedic Society-Mangaluru, in providing a “Knowledge Exchange Programme & Training in the field of Joint Replacement Surgery”, had also conducted a Total Knee Replacement (TKR) procedure with live telecast of the surgery conducted Dr Jalaluddeen M.V – HOD – Dept of Orthopaedics, KIMS and Dr Jose Mario Marina – Chief Joint Replacement Surgeon, Precision Orthopaedics, USA; at the KIMS Auditorium – Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, 3rd Floor on 9 th Oct,2017. The surgery was conducted on a 56-year-old woman, who had both her knees totally replaced using the modern technology by these two orthopaedic doctors.
The TKR procedure was skilfully conducted by Orthopaedic Surgeons: Dr Jalalaluddeen & Dr Jose Marina, assisted by Anaesthetists namely, Dr Vincent & Dr Suhas; Nurse Assistants: Sr Laisy, Br Subheesh, Sr Lalitha @ Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, Mangaluru. The Live Surgery telecast was followed by the inaugural address by Founder & Hon’ble Chairman of Kanachur Islamic Education Trust, Haji U.K. Monu amidst Dr. Abdul Rahiman, Director, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. H.S. Virupaksha, Dean, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, Dr. Rohan Monis, Chief Administrative Medical Officer, Dr. Jalaluddeen M.V. Professor of Orthopaedics, Dr. Jose Marina, Precision Orthopaedics Mission, Texas, USA, Dr. H.R. Rai, President, Canara Orthopaedics Society, Dr. Ajith Kumar, President, K.O.A on the dais.
The programme was inaugurated by Haji U.K. Monu. Dr Ahmed Rizwan C.M. welcomed the gathering. In his address, Dr Jalaluddeen M.V., HOD of Orthopaedics, KIMS, expressed his thanks to the humble Dr Marina and also thanked all the eminent Orthopaedic Surgeons to come under one roof to help learn and share their art of TKR surgery. He mentioned that soon there will be speciality clinics at Kanachur Hospital in the Department of Orthopaedics in Spine, Deformity Corrections and Arthroplasty.

Dr Jalaluddeen also speaking said, ” These days patients go abroad like Dubai, Singapore etc for their TKR, but why? We can do it right here at KIMS. Why pay Rs 30 lacs in Dubai, when you can do TKR within a lakh at KIMS. Today’s TKR on the woman cost her only Rs 70,000, of which Rs 52,400 was for the TKR implant, a price fixed by the govt. Surgery charges and doctors fees were free absolutely. The woman is very happy, and she can walk perfectly by tomorrow, without any difficulties. At KIMS we concentrate on quality, and also the low cost of our services provided really benefits the patients who come here. Ours is a 1200 bedded hospital right now, and we are in the process of adding more beds and facilities. At KIMS you can have not just orthopaedic treatment but treatment for other ailments at a very low cost, and for poor families, its free, they are only charged for certain things. We are happy to have Dr Jose Marina who conducted the TKR along with me, and also shared his thoughts/views with all of us during the seminar. “
