Dr P S Harsha Takes Charge as Top Cop of Mangaluru Commissionerate

Mangaluru: Dr P S Harsha IPS took charge as Police Commissioner of Mangaluru Commissionerate here on August 9.

Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil had handed over the charge before going to Bengaluru as DIG and Joint Commissioner of Police Crimes, Bengaluru City.

 

When the official transferred order was issued by the Karnataka government Secretariat on August 1, Dr A Subramanyeswara Rao IPS (KN 2002) was transferred as Police Commissioner of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate but due to some reasons, Dr Subramanyeswara Rao was not able to come to Mangaluru. On August 5, another order was issued by the KGS and Dr Harsha was transferred to Mangalur as DIG and commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City.

 

Dr Harsha IPS a Kannadiga has his roots in rich cultural fort city of Chitradurga. A doctor by learning and police officer by profession, he is a 2004 batch IPS officer who chose civil services immediately after completing his MBBS. Dr Harsha is a multifaceted personality who believes in living life to the fullest. An avid traveller who likes travelling in the western ghats, he has a deep interest in wildlife conservation. On professional count, Dr Harsha has handled many assignments with multifarious roles.

Addressing the mediapersons Dr Harsha said, “It is my pleasure to work in Mangaluru. I started my career from Dakshina Kannada as ASP of Puttur, later promoted as SP and transferred to Tumkur. I have worked in Bangalore as Deputy Commissioner of Police in 3 zones, South East, Northeast and East. Beyond policing, I have worked as the Managing Director of Karnataka State Tourism development corporation and later as the commissioner of Information and Public Relations. My last assignment was as Director of KSRTC.

Dr Harsha further said, “I am happy to be in Mangaluru, the people of Dakshina Kannada are well disciplined and law-abiding. People of Mangaluru are very cordial. I assure to maintain the law and order and my team will take special care in this regard. My main aim is to strengthen the police stations with the focus to efforts in strengthening communal harmony in the commissionerate. I will facilitate interaction with the public on improving policing in all aspects and need support from the people.”

Dr Harsha also said, “I want the co-operation from the public for effective policing. Policing will be people friendly and police officers will be able to handle any situation as per the law. I would like to thank the media as it is the bridge between the police and the society and also the support from the media to reach out to the public”.

As Asp Puttur, Dr Harsha was instrumental in stabilizing communal tensions. Moving on as SP of Tumkur, he did significant work and was awarded the Chief Minister’s award for Police Welfare and innovative methods of Policing. During his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Police in 3 zones, South East, North East and East Bengaluru Dr Harsha was awarded the Chief Ministers Medal in 2016 for his contribution for making Bangalore city a lot safer. During his tenure as Managing Director of Karnataka State Tourism development corporation, he was instrumental in making Karnataka a truly global tourism destination. During his stint as Commissioner, Information and Public Relations, Dr Harsha changed the way Government communicates and made governance people friendly. While working as Director, KSRTC he focused on new-age mobility solutions and making public transport more attractive to help in decongestion of roads. Dr Harsha is a true connoisseur of arts, it is his favourite pastime to listen to Hariprasad Chaurasia.
