Mangaluru: Dr (Prof.) A A Shetty, an Indian-origin British orthopaedic surgeon, who has been awarded the Hunterian Professorship and the Medal for 2017 by the Royal College of Surgeons of England for his research on stem cells in articular cartilage repair, will be in Mangaluru to release his book “Ability Beyond Disability” and he will also deliver a speech on the topic-” The Next Big Thing- Health and Medical Care”. Giving back to the society is not just a thought but an initiative- Dr. Shetty- a leading knee and limb reconstruction surgeon in London, United Kingdom, will be speaking on the new trends of health care Industry. Dr. (Prof.) A. A. Shetty is associated with many social organisations and he is also an Adjunct Professor of Stem cell research at Nitte University. Dr AA Shetty receives prestigious Hunterian Medal in UK
Dr Shetty is chairman and director of stem cell research at Canterbury Christ Church University, United Kingdom. He is believed to be the first surgeon to use the robotics in arthroscopic knee surgery in the world and gel based cartilage repair surgery in the UK; and he has been recently developing surgical techniques for cartilage repair, Gel ACI (autologous chondrocyte implantation). He has also undertaken some of the most complex revision knee surgeries and limb reconstruction surgeries. The Hunterian Professorship, named after the pioneering surgeon scientist John Hunter and dating back over two centuries, is bestowed to surgeons of eminence who have contributed to the field of surgery by original research or innovations.
His interest is stem cell research, cartilage transplant, accelerated bone healing, and application of computer navigation, 3D printing and robotics in minimally invasive surgery: PhD MCh Orth.
