Dr Sachidanand-Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS)-Bengaluru briefs about Projects during Silver Jubilee Celebration
Mangaluru : During the two-day 142nd Syndicate Meeting of RGHUS now going on in Mangaluru, Dr Sachidanand, the Vice Chancellor of RGUHS held a press meet at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Mangaluru, where he briefed about the upcoming projects while the University celebrates its Silver Jubilee. He said, “RGUHS was established on 1 June 1996 and is functioning at General Hospital Complex, Jayanagar in Bengaluru. In the event of the silver Jubilee Celebration, the University has proposed to establish a few infrastructure facilities at Sy No 73 in Bheemanakuppe Village, Kengeri Hobli , Bengaluru South Taluk, Bengaluru at an appropriate cost of Rs 400 crores”.
He further said, “As per the Government order No HFW/196/MPS/2006 (part dated 18.08.2007) the govt of Karnataka was allotted 71 acre 15 Guntas of land at Archakarahalli Village-Ramanagara Taluk/District. The University Syndicate has already approved the proposal of construction of Administrative Block in the allotted land. The plans and elevation of the proposed Admin Block was presented in the 141st Syndicate Meeting held on 20.05.2019, with an amount of about Rs 600 crores- and this project will be taken up as part of Silver Jubilee celebrations”.
“The government is mulling over a proposal to set up a zonal office of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Mangaluru. With the setting up of a zonal office in Mangaluru, the medical and paramedical college students need not visit the University in Bengaluru for any emergency work. The zonal office is likely to come up near the Mangalore University. If a five-acre site is made available from the Mangalore University, then a complex will be constructed to house the zonal office of the RGUHS. The zonal office will include a sports complex. We will be also giving 271 students an opportunity to do research during their vacation time. We will provide insurance to students towards expenses to continue their studies, if they lose their parents” added Dr Sachidanand.
He concluded by saying, “Students who need help in the academics will be obliged, and we are planning to give gold medals to the toppers in each subject. We will provide Best Thesis Award for PG students. Faculty members will also be given an opportunity to do their PhD , and nearly Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for PG research education project. Exams in future will be conducted in fair and transparent manner, and will be monitored by cameras. Since Karnataka State RGUHS gets students from out of state, we will make compulsory for such students to take up 40 hours of Kannada language course. We will strive hard to improve our University with all latest technology, and will also introduce the Simulation Centre, where students can learn using mannequins”.
