Drinking water suppliers should have ISI certification – DC Jagadisha

Mangaluru: “To retain the quality, food processing and drinking water supply units will be inspected on a regular basis”, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Jagadeesha in a meeting at his office here on May 3.

‘In Dakshina Kannada, there are 16 drinking water suppliers and all of them should possess ISI certification which is mandatory. If they do not have an ISI certification they should not be issued licenses in the city or Gram Panchayat levels. Even the existing drinking water suppliers who supply water bottles should take back their water bottles. A circular should be issued to all drinking water suppliers in the city and the Gram Panchayats. Action will be taken against those who supply drinking water illegally.

DC Jagadeesha was also not satisfied with the food safety officers who failed to check the quality of the drinking water supplied in water bottles. Within a month all the food safety officers should collect all the drinking water samples from the suppliers and send them for testing, he said.

The Footpath food stalls and fast food outlets supply adulterated food to the people, the food safety officers should keep an eye on them. If colour is used in fast food, people should not use such food. Awareness should be created among the people about the disadvantages of consuming fast food with added colours.

Nowadays using chemicals to ripen fruits etc has drastically increased. To attract customers some vendors mix colour to sweets and eatables which are very dangerous to one’s health. Such food items should be tested from time to time. If anyone is found using the banned colours in food items, action will be taken against them. Action will also be taken against bakeries selling coloured food.

ADC Kumar, ZP CEO Dr Ravi, DHO Ramakrishna Rao, Senior Food safety officer H T Raju, Dr Rajesh and others were also present.
