Driver dies after Pick-up Crashes into electric pole and catches fire
Bhatkal: The driver of the pick-up was killed on the spot when the pick-up he was driving crashed into an electric pole and caught fire due to high voltage electric current.
The deceased has been identified as Qasim Abdul Khader (42), a resident of Baggon in Kumta. The incident took place at Manki on NH66 in the afternoon on Sunday, October 16.
Official sources said that the incident occurred when the speeding Pick-up was on the way towards Kumta from Bhatkal. Initially, the Pick-up collided with an auto-rickshaw, lost control and crashed into the electric pole.
It is learnt that the deceased Qasim, was employed in Saudi Arabia for about 17 years and for the last 4 years employed in Kumta with the IRB Company, which is undertaking the work of National Highway. The Pick-up involved in the accident also belonged to the same company. Qasim is survived by his wife and a daughter. As the information was received, his in-laws from Murdeshwar and family members from Kumta rushed to Honnavar government hospital, where the post-mortem was conducted.
A case has been registered in the Manki police station and further investigation is on.
