Mandya: A lorry transporting heavy iron materials like rollers from Mangaluru to Maddur in the district rolled into a gorge on Sunday after its driver lost control over it.

The mishap took place near the Damadahalli gate on K R Pet-Srirangapatna roadaround 12-30 pm.

Kumar, the driver, got crushed under the load and is believed to have on the spot. Lanson, the owner who is also from Mangaluru, had his feet trapped in the cabin of the lorry.

Although the locals gathered to help him out, the huge weight of the load prevented rescue. The Srirangapatna police arrived with a mechanical crane, which too could not handle the load.

A second crane was commissioned for the purpose. With both cranes in operation, after three long hours, they could be taken out. Traffic was blocked for a long time.

Lanson was admitted to a hospital in K R Pet. The Srirangapatna police have registered a case.
