Drummer Shivamani Enthrals Devotees During Shiroor Swamiji’s Birthday

Udupi: Well-known drummer Shivamani performed at the Shiroor Moola Math on Friday during Sri Laxmivara Thirtha Swamiji’s 54th Birthday celebrations.

During the celebrations, Shiroor Swamiji laid the foundation stone of the musical academy of world-famous drummer Shivamani. The Swamiji donated 4 acres of land to Shivamani’s music academy. Meanwhile, the Swamiji handed over 15 acres of land to develop the forest for Samvedana Foundation Malpe.

The foundation stone laying programme was conducted by planting fruit saplings in the presence of Sri Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji of Sandipani Sadhanashrama Kemaru.

Later, Shivamani entrained the devotees for more than half an hour with his music performance using the drums and other musical instruments. He played the music of different states in the country. Shiroor Sri himself played the drums and exhibited his talent.

Later speaking to the mediapersons, Drummer Shivamani said, “I do not know why Shiroor Swamiji has chosen me to set up a music academy here in Shiroor. God has given me a chance to spend time with the Swamiji which is a great honour for me. My music Academy will be set up in the next 4 years. I am a member of the world’s largest music academy, the US Percussive Arts Society. In our music academy, we give training in Indian and Western musical instruments. I would like to bring great drummers and other musicians here to train the students.”

Sri Laxmivara Thirtha Swamiji said that music is a tool to worship God. “So we decided to start a music academy in our Math. I have been in close contact with Shivamani for the last 28 years. He is the greatest musician in the world blessed by God. We have decided to start a world-class music school and will give 4 acres of land for free to start a school,” the Swamiji said.

Prakash Malpe, the Co-Ordinator of Samvedana Foundation, said that Shiroor Swamiji has given 15 acres of land to develop the forest through his Foundation. “We will plant a variety of plants in the land which will attract the birds from across the country,” he added.
