Mangaluru : As law enforcement authorities from the police department and RTO are cracking down heavily on motorists violating traffic rules, with hefty fines after the new Motor Vehicle rules came into effect recently, however, a bunch of these people who crack down on motorists for violations also break traffic rules- and here is one incident of drunk driving, where a drunk Regional Transport Office (RTO) Inspector in the Electronic City area of Bengaluru knocked a parked auto-rickshaw after which the driver has suffered severe injuries, and battling for life in the hospital. The incident happened in broad daylight in the Electronic City Phase 2 around 11 am on 12 September 2019.

As per sources, the RTO inspector was found in an inebriated state during his duty hours, who was identified as Manjunath who is currently posted at the Chandapura RTO, Bengaluru. Manjunath collided a parked auto near Tata Consultancy Service office located in the Electronic City. The incident raised several questions about the department’s responsibilities, as the inspector was found in an inebriated state during his duty hours.

The victim auto driver was identified as Imran Emba, who has received grievous injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. Condemning sheer negligence on the part of the inspector, auto drivers of the area are staging protests and demanding strict action against the accused. However, a probe in the case is underway.

In a similar case reported from Gujarat, a policeman was arrested for allegedly firing in the air from his service weapon in an inebriated state and assaulting a Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) jawan in Surat. The incident took place in Kadhaiya village where V N Chaudhary, a police sub-inspector with Jamnagar traffic branch, was on leave and visiting his native place. The GRD jawan accused Chaudhary of thrashing him in a drunken state and firing three rounds in the air from his service revolver. However, the accused person was arrested by the police.
