Croatian grocery store owner strikes gold at the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Mega Raffle
UAE: Since it began on 1 January, Dubai Shopping Festival’s “Journey Into Winning” has been transforming the lives of not only residents but also visitors who especially come to Dubai during this period and take back with them memories of a fantastic shopping, retail and entertainment extravaganza.
One such visitor is Maglov Drazen, a Croatian national, who won 5 kilos of gold as part of the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Mega Raffle’s weekly prize draw that was held on 16 January.
“I was driving when I received a call from Dubai saying that I won 5 kilos of gold at the Dubai Shopping Festival. I was sure that it is a prank call from someone who knew about my Dubai vacation, but when I figured out it was true, I simply couldn’t believe it and I am still trying to convince myself that it is for real!” said Maglov, who was in Croatia when he was informed of his windfall.
“In a period of just five seconds my life as well as my family’s life changed forever. I run a small grocery store in Croatia and I have a large joint family to provide for. Now I can plan my life better. Thank you Dubai! The emirate is truly a city of gold and I was amazed with the way gold and diamond jewellery is displayed at the shops in Dubai for public view and sale,” he added.
The Gold and Jewellery Mega Raffle is the biggest ever gold and jewellery promotion, offering shoppers spending AED 500 at any of the participating outlets, the chance to win up to AED 15 million in prizes including 100 kilos of gold and 40 carats of diamond across 32 days of DSF. Shoppers will be entitled to one raffle coupon upon gold purchases of AED 500 or more and will receive two raffle coupons when spending AED 500 or more on diamond jewellery.
Those looking to own a piece of history, can purchase a part of the ‘Dubai Celebration Chain’ which has set the Guinness World Record for the longest handmade gold chain in the world. Upon purchasing a piece of this special chain, shoppers will receive two raffle coupons for the draw instead of one and can therefore double their chances of winning.
DSF 2015 is organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and will run until 1 February under the theme “A Journey of Celebrations”.
