Dubai, June 21 (IANS) A 41-year-old Dubai man on Sunday attempted a world record by performing ‘shirsasana’ or headstand for about an hour on the occasion of International Yoga Day, a media report said.

Ivan Stanley stood on his head for 61 minutes to create a possible new Guinness World Record, Emirates 24|7 reported, adding that the feat left him feeling “a little” disoriented.

“It feels nice but a little disorienting. Those last five minutes were impossible, perhaps the longest of my life,” Stanley said after his feet touched the ground.

A headstand is often called the king of asanas, or postures, in yoga.

The Dubai-based advertising professional had earlier attempted a 58-minute headstand, but this time he decided to push the limits further.

“I have attempted 50 minutes earlier; and last week, I pushed up to 58 minutes… That’s when I decided, one hour is a good time to start with to set a record,” he was quoted as saying.

“When I contacted the Guinness World Records international office, there was no such challenge registered with the organisation. We have registered the attempt and will send the video to them. Hopefully, we should know soon enough,” he added.

Yogaraj C.P., a certified yoga instructor, had reportedly stayed in the headstand posture for two hours and 40 minutes in September 2004. But the Hong Kong-based man’s name appears in the Guinness World Records for conducting the longest yoga marathon earlier this year, which lasted 40 hours and 15 minutes.
