New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) Samarth Dwivedi and Aman Raj will represent India at the 113th Malaysian Amateur Open tournament to be held at the Sarawak Golf Club, Kuching, Malaysia from May 21 to 24.
Dwivedi and Raj, who are currently second and third on the Indian Golf Union’s (IGU) men amateur Order of Merit list, respectively, hope to shine at the four-day stroke play championship in a field of 120 players from all across Asia.
IGU selected Dwivedi and Raj on the basis of their performance in the first event at the start of this year where both of them finished on top two positions.
Raj, 19, who hails from Patna, said: “I wouldn’t have been able to reach at this level without the support of IGU. Thanks to the tournaments that they organise in each city which allows players like me to compete and see golf as a career.”
Dwivedi, 22, who was part of the Indian contingent at the Incheon Asian Games last year, said: “I have played around eight international tournaments as an amateur and I have the experience of playing in Malaysia as a junior.
“I have recently bought new clubs and I am pretty confident about performing well with those for the first time.”
