Mangaluru: ‘Educational institutions must also focus on bringing up good hearted generation along with a knowledgeable one. Imparting only know-how may pose as a danger to the country but a generation with social vibrancy, cultural values and sportive attitude is an asset, opined Dr Mohan Alva, Director of Alva’s Education. He was addressing the gathering at the 39th Annual Day celebration of Besant Women’s College as a guest of honour.
Today’s generation is a most talented one hence; there is tough competition in all the fields like education, sports and arts. Attaining high knowledge in any field may ensure proper utilization of talents. Colleges besides imparting knowledge must guide the students for higher studies and also develop in them a sense of appreciation for our folk and other arts. Thus our traditional arts can be passed on to the future in this globalized society.
Art has no religion, but art itself is a religion, he said. A person who learns to appreciate art will also learn to value nature and humanity. Likewise, a person with sportive attitude will never fail in life but himself becomes an inspiration for other achievers. Appreciating the contribution of Besant Women’s College that runs on the principles of Dr Annie Besant he said, the college has gifted many brilliant women achievers in different fields. He assured to co-operate with Besant institutions while planning and executing programmes related to centenary celebrations that fall in the year 2018.
Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, WNES President, in his presidential address said, Alva’s Institutions have inspired Women’s National Education Society and rendered immense service by exhibiting excellence in education as well as passing on culture and arts to the next generation.
