Elderly Woman Vinodini murder, Accused arrested in 38 hours of FIR

Mangaluru: “The Puttur police have arrested the accused in the Elderly Woman Vinodini’s murder case in 38 hours of filing the FIR”, said the Superintendent of police Bhushan Borase in a press meet held at his office here on December 31.

The arrested has been identified as Laxman Nayak (32), a resident of Mithanadka, Karopadi Bantwal.

Addressing the mediapersons SP Bhushan said, “On December 8, Vinodini who was staying alone in a rented house had called Laxman to repair the fan. On December 23, at 6:00pm, Laxman came to Vinodini’s house for fan repair. At 8.30PM, he used a blunt hard object and hit Vinodini on the head. Later he used her saree and strangled her to death. He then took the earrings and gold chain worth Rs 50,000, locked the main door and left the place.

SP Borase further said, “Vinodini was staying alone in her rented house and her only daughter is staying in Bengaluru with her husband. On December 29, the neighbours noticed foul smell emanating from Vindoni’s house and they informed her daughter Mythri in Bengaluru. On December 31, Laxman was arrested from Puttur KSRTC bus stand. The police recovered the earrings, chain and a Mobile from his possession. During interrogation, Laxman accepted his crime of killing Vinodini out of greed. He had expected of getting a lot of money and gold ornaments from Vinodini but he did not find any cash. Vindoni had deposited Rs 4 lakh in the bank and was living on the interest she got from it”.

Under the able guidance of SP Bhushan Borase, the operation was carried out by the ASP of Puttur Rishyanth, Puttur police inspector Mahesh Prasad, Puttur PSI Omana N K, Venkatesh K, Probationary PSI Manjunath, ASI Duggappa Gowda, HC Radhakrishna, Skaria, Krishnappa, Jayaram, Narayan, PC Rajesh, Prashanth Rai, Prashanth Shetty, Mallesh and Praveen Rai, from Vittal police station, Sampath Kumar and Diwakar.

SP Borase appreciated the swift action in arresting the accused in 38 hours of the FIR filed in the station and announced reward.

Hope this guy gets what he deserves and spends many many decades in prison for what he did to an innocent individual.
