Elected Representatives not Bothered of taking Measures to Eliminate Dengue, they are Enjoying in Resort – Ramanth Rai
Mangaluru: “Many people in the District are suffering from Dengue and have been admitted to the hospital. Some of them including a journalist have already lost their life. Due to the intermittent rainfall in the district dengue cases are increasing every day. In this kind of situation, our elected Representatives have not taken any measures to control the disease. Instead, they are enjoying in the resort”, said former minister Ramanath Rai in a press meet held at the DCC office, Mallikatta here on July 27.
Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said, “At this crucial time the elected representatives should have taken special measures to prevent dengue from spreading but our MLAs are staying in the resort and having a nice time. They are power-hungry and not bothered about the people of their constituency. The district administration has taken all the measures to control dengue in the district. The MLA of our constituency instructs the officers on phone from Bengaluru to take necessary measures. Instructing the officers over the phone does not serve the purpose, he should be among the people and lead during this critical time. We the District Congress condemns such attitude.”
When asked why the District minister in-charge did not take any action Ramanath Rai said, “When there was a need, the BJP leaders tried to destabilize the coalition government and did not allow the minister to concentrate on the District issues by holding meetings with the DHO and other health officers. But still, the District Minister-in-charge has done his duty. Unfortunately, the coalition government lost the trust vote and had to step down after just over a year in power. In these circumstances, our present MLAs has not shown any concern for the people”.
Ramanath Rai also said, “When I was the minister I have done my duty with integrity. I have concentrated on the all-round development of the District. I was never power-hungry.”
DCC President Harish Kumar, Sashidhar Hegde, District Women’s Congress president Shalet Pinto, corporater Appi and others were also present.
