Election Officers Harassing People in the name of election Model Code of Conduct – Ivan

Mangaluru: The Election officers are exceeding their limits. Election officers do not allow to hold any programmes, they even enter the venue of marriage functions without any information and seize liquor. They instruct not to allow politicians for any marriage functions, religious programmes and social programmes. I do not know whether the District Election Officer and also the Deputy Commissioner is aware of such attitude of the election officers. Those who are on duty, have failed to understand the model code of conduct. I will write a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar to review the situation”, said Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at the DCC office Mallikatta here on April 16.

Addressing the mediapersons Ivan said, “Those who go for shopping, they have to produce the documents while carrying cash. Even the officers of the flying squad in Dakhsina Kannada are not allowing to serve liquor in marriage function without permission. For everything, they ask for the receipt and documents. There is no single window system to get permission for holding functions, serving liquor etc. One of the organization had held a programme to distribute spectacles but the Election officers did not allow the organizers to distribute the spectacles.”

Ivan further said, “This is not an election emergency. I will speak to the deputy commissioner in this regard. I will write to the election commission to keep a vigil on the election commission’s surveillance and flying squad since they are harassing people in the name of election Model Code of Conduct.”

Ivan also announced that on April 17, a protest will be held nation-wide in every Taluk against the rape and brutal murder of 8-year-old girl in Kathua.
