Emmekere Residents to hold Protest to retain Play Ground
Mangaluru: “The Emmekere Maidan Ulisi Horata Samiti will hold a protest meet on September 3, to retain the play ground at Emmekere. The government is planning to construct a swimming pool and the first phase of the work has already started. More than 25000 people reside in Emmekere and the Emmekere ground is the only place for the children of that area to play. We will not allow the government to construct a swimming pool at the Emmekere ground”, said the member of EMUHS Dinakar Shetty in a press meet held at Hotel Woodland here on September 2.
Addressing the mediapersons Dinakar Shetty said, “Emmekere ground has an iconic significance and it is known as the third biggest ground. From the past 40 years, many sports meets have been organised on this ground. Students from Six colleges use this ground to play. The ground is also utilised to hold programmes. But without taking the residents of Emmekere into confidence, the government has initiated to construct a swimming pool. Next to the ground, there is a huge pond. We do not want a swimming pool here, instead, we want the government to develop the ground as well as the pond.”
Dinakar further said, “The residents of Emmekere demand the government to withdraw the swimming pool project and retain the ground. Let them construct the swimming pool in any other place but we will not allow anyone to construct a swimming pool here. On September 3 at 4:00 pm more than 1000 people will gather to protest against the government and demand to drop the swimming pool project.”
Yogesh Shetty Jeppu, Jyothika Jain, Salam Emmekere, Naresh Kumar and others were also present.
