Dr Manjunath Bhandary conferred with Eminent Engineer of the year Award 2016 by The Institution of Engineers (India)
Mangaluru: Dr Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman of Bhandary foundation, is awarded for his meritorious services in the field of Education and social activities on the 49th Engineers day celebrations, by The Institution of Engineers (India) Karnataka State Centre, Bengaluru in the august presence of renowned Engineers, Scientists from DRDO, IISc, NAL, VSSC and many practicing and retired Engineers. This is an annual flagship event of the Institution of Engineers where they recognise the contribution of Engineers in various allied fields.
He addressed on the theme of “Skill development for Young Engineers to reform the core Sector: Vision 2025”. Our Engineering education should cater to address the social issues. Since we cannot foresee the expectations in 2025, but skills can be nurtured to meet any dynamic challenges. He focused on how the intellectual capital of Premier Institute like IISc, IIT, NIT is not directly impacting the society due to brain drain, despite huge investments on them. Every act of learning should collate to prepare students as Practicing Engineers. He remembered the versatile traits of Sir MV and wished if everyone treads his footsteps it would be a different world. He expressed that the award belonged to every stakeholder of Sahyadri, in the form of students, staff, Industry personnel who have mentored students.
A visionary, entrepreneur, educationist and politician. His novel thoughts add a new dimension to the world of education. His dynamic leadership brings about much needed social reforms through education, to empower individuals to become the backbone of an enterprising, productive society. He has received the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship Award by the Eisenhower Foundation, Philadelphia, USA. He has been nominated as a special invitee to the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC). And also received the Second National Karnataka Education Award by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and CMAI Association of India for his excellent contribution to education.
The Institution of Engineers (India) is the pioneer body to introduce, starting from 1928, non-formal engineering education programme, successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to a degree in engineering by the Government of India, the Union Public Service Commission, the State Governments and many Public / Private Sector organizations in the country.
