London, Sep 13 (IANS) Hosts England were welcomed on Saturday to Rugby World Cup 2015 at an official welcome ceremony at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the media reported.
The ceremony marked the arrival of the team ahead of the start of the World Cup campaign at Twickenham in London on September 18, when England face Fiji in their opening game of the Tournament, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ceremony saw the England’s squad arrive at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to be greeted by a choir from Longcroft School from Beverley, East Yorkshire, performing World In Union in front of an audience including figures from World Rugby, England Rugby 2015 and the RFU, as well as the player’s families and the local community.
Each member of the team was presented with a tournament cap and World Cup participation medal.
England captain Chris Robshaw said: “To be here along with other 30 players at the official Welcome Ceremony and receive our caps is a truly memorable moment for any player.
“We’re proud to be here and to be going to go out there and make you as proud as possible over next coming weeks. As teams start to arrive, you can truly feel the momentum building, and we’re sure there’ll be more of the same a week yesterday.”
