‘Entire Refinery Complex is Running Normal at Peak Capacities’ – M Venkatesh, Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL)
Mangaluru : Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, M Venkatesh, the Managing Director of MRPL said, “As informed earlier, MRPL Refinery complex had faced below ground soil erosion due to very heavy and intense rainfall during the first and second week of August 2019 effecting the foundation of one of the pipe rack in the Phase III Refinery complex. An immediate shut down of entire phase III complex was taken as a safety measure during the third week of Aug 2019”
“On war footing all emergency measures have been taken to arrest any significant damage to pipe rack resulting in NO DAMAGE to any of the pipes laid on the pipe rack. After ensuring the safety of the pipe rack by undertaking emergency rectification works, the Phase III Refinery complex was commissioned back during the second week of September 2019 and we are happy to inform that the entire refinery complex is running normal at peak capacities since then. Due to recent attacks on Saudi Oil facilities, the crude oil supplies to MRPL has not been affected and we are able to sustain our operations normally.
Going forward we expect stable crude oil supplies from Middle East with Saudi Arabia reporting crude oil production at normal levels bringing the much needed stability in international crude oil prices and improved Gross Refining Margins” added Venkatesh.
He further said “MRPL has been contributing to the social development of the region through its unstinting efforts under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Our maximum focus is towards DK district and Udupi district. Our CSR spending is over Rs 50 crores for FY 19 20. MRPL has contributed to Rs 5 crores for Honourable CM relief fund towards flood relief. Further We are contributing Rs 1 Crore for DK district flood relief. MRPL has undertaken SWACHHATA HI SEWA program successfully by undertaking various awareness programs & cleanliness drives toward harmful effects of single use plastic usage.
MRPL is focused towards SIKSHA and AROGYA SAMRAKSHAN across DK and Udupi districts” .
Also speaking during the press meet, Vinay Kumar-Director of Refinery said, “The Oil marketing companies have been mandated to supply BS VI grade MS & HSD across the country from 1st April 2020 and to this effect the MRPL is also moving towards production of BS VI grade HSD and MS. As of date, MRPL has started producing BS VI grade HSD and MS from the refinery process units with a view to start supplying to Mangaluru Bengaluru pipeline by end of Nov 2019 itself. To improve our presence in retail segment through our RO brand HiQ retail outlets, MRPL has launched a massive drive to set up new ROs across the state of Karnataka. We have received good response against our advertisement. We expect to commission at least another 5 ROs by end of FY 19 20 and at least another 50 to 100 Retail Outlets by 31st March 2021”.
” The Sea Water Desalination project is on track and the scheduled times lines for attaining mechanical completion by end Aug 2020 is going to be met. However, for the summer period between March 2020 to June 2020, MRPL is attempting to hire containerized desalination units. MRPL is also targeting to increase the use of Treated Municipal Sewage from present 2.5 Million Gallons per day (MGD) to at least 4 MGD in the immediate future and later on to 6 MGD by working closely with MSEZL and Mangaluru Corporation” said Sanjay Verma , the GGM In-charge of Refinery.
