EOND Police Station Set-up to Curb Drug Menace in District – Ramanath Rai

Mangaluru: “Recently the MP had stated that from four years Drug peddling in the district is rampant which had led to Zubair’s murder in Mukkacheri. As per my knowledge, the Ganja and narcotic drugs are available in our district from the past 10 years. But the opposition has given a political colour to Zubair’s murder and is blaming that because of drugs Zubair was killed. Zubair’s murder is being investigated by the Police commissioner by forming four teams and after the investigation, it is revealed that under the influence of alcohol the accused had killed Zubair because of personal enmity”, said District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on October 12.

Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said, “Medicines are given in pharmacies without the prescription. The police have taken all measures and informed the Pharmacists not to provide medicine without a prescription. The Police commissioner also held a meeting with the Principles and heads of all the Institutions and Schools to bring awareness to the students about the disadvantageous of consuming drugs. The police are trying to bring control over the drug menace in the district. All the political parties should join together to curb the drug menace in the district instead of blaming the Congress government.”

Ramanath Rai further said, “I will not speak like the opposition, whatever issues have come to my notice, I have informed the police to take action. No one wants their children or neighbours to be addicted to drugs. The common man too cannot afford expensive drugs. An Economic offense and Narcotic Drugs Police station will be set up in every district, in our district, we have already set-up the same and have posted one inspector.”

When asked how many cases are filed after setting up the Economic offenses and Narcotic Drugs police station, the Police commissioner said, “We are not only filing cases but also trying to control drugs by organizing awareness programmes. The police will prevent, bring awareness and file cases against those who are involved in consuming and peddling drugs.”

When asked about not filing cases against drug peddlers who possess less than 50 grams of drugs, The Police commissioner said, “We are filing cases if we find anyone carrying even one gram of drug. We have found the source of drug peddling but in some cases, the supplier does not reach the buyer directly so we are finding some difficulty. We are trying our best to find out the kingpins supplying drugs.”.

Police Commissioner T R Suresh, IGP Western Range Hemant Nimbalkar, SP Sudheer Reddy, DCP Uma Prashanth, ADC Kumar, Information officer Khader Shah and others were also present.
