Eshwarappa Gives Hint of Discontent in BJP Set-up

Bengaluru: BJP state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has recently reconstituted the state committee and made new appointments to district committees.

There were indications of disagreement and disappointment in many circles, but no one dared to express it openly since Yeddyurappa was handpicked by PM Modi and party’s national president Amit Shah.

Many party leaders in the state were surprised that BSY and D V Sadananda Gowda, who did not see eye to eye for some time, are now getting closer.

A clear sign was the appointment of Sanjiva Matandoor, a close relative of Gowda, as the president of the party in his home district, Dakshina Kannada.

K S Eshwarappa, a former state president and former deputy chief minister, who is well known for his outbursts as well as outspoken expressions, said a few days ago that BSY should have taken everyone into confidence. He expressed his displeasure regarding his failure in convening a meeting of the core committee even.

Speaking in Ballari on Saturday, Eshwarappa reiterated that Yeddyurappa’s choice in appointments to the posts in the district units and various morchas was unilateral. This had created discontent among the party workers everywhere, he said.

Yet, he continued, these issues would be sorted out at the party level.

BSY responds

Speaking in Hubballi, Yeddyurappa clarified that all local leaders had been taken into confidence while making the appointments.

Responding to Eshwarappa’s point, he said if he (Eshwarappa) had any issues, he should bring it to the notice of the national-level leaders. He should stop making allegations like this in public, BSY said.

Supporting his statement, he said that in Dharwad, persons recommended by Pralhad Joshi were appointed, in Hubballi by Jagadish Shettar and by H N Anant Kumar and R Ashoka.

In Shivamogga too, the local leaders had been consulted and appointments made, he asserted.
