Every Ending Has a New Beginning! Juniors Bid Adieus to 44 Prospective Teachers of SA-B Ed

Every Ending Has a New Beginning! Juniors Bid Adieus to 44 B Ed Senior students/Prospective Teachers who were the First batch of the Two-Year BEd Course of St Aloysius B Ed College, Mangaluru.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” -Steve Jobbs-Founder of Apple Inc.

Mangaluru: “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever “- This quote from Mahatma Gandhi’s has a universal appeal for those who are about to move forward to a new experience. “Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – this popular quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds prospective B Ed graduates of their uniqueness, as well as their ability to create their own path in the world, when they step into their teaching profession. “To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream, not only dream but also believe.” – this quote by Anatole France combines the necessity of both faith and hard work as a road to success for all prospective B Ed graduates. And once you become teachers, go into world and teach others what you have learnt. Go also into rural areas and make a difference in villagers life.

Saturday, 13 January 2018 was a day that juniors of First Year B Ed Course of St Aloysius B Ed College-Mangaluru bid adieus to 44 First Batch of the Two-Year B Ed course. It was a day that filled everyone’s hearts with mixed feelings — fulfillment and sadness, anxiety and eagerness. It was time to say goodbye to the comfortable and secure life within college walls and to get ready to march to the beat of the business world. The uncertainty of the future looms large over these fresh B Ed prospective graduates as they spread out their wings. In few months they will be armed with diplomas and idealistic dreams, as they charge ahead with enthusiasm. In the meantime, they also need oodles of advice and inspiration.

The “Goodbye” ceremony for the 44 prospective B Ed graduates/Teachers began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song, followed by welcome address by Bianca, a first year B Ed student. Many memories and sentiments have been experienced by the First batch of the B Ed students during their two-year of life at this institution- and what could be a better way to proceed with the programme by listening to two students, namely Nirmala Mary and Semima, of this First batch, who shared their experience and thoughts during their 2-year tenure as students of this institute.

Memories with the Second Year’s were also captured in a small way through a power point presentation, where Royal Sj was at the helm of it. Leadership is not a position or a title-it is an action and example. And one person who has set an example by his action is Fr Eric Mathias Sj-the Director of this Institution, who is fondly loved by the staff and students, shared his feelings during his speech where he said, ” Today I have mixed feelings in my heart- I am sad, and also happy. Sad because you 44 students are leaving us, but I feel happy because pretty soon you will step into a great profession as teachers, to serve the nation and world. I have three bits of advice for you all- First, Show passion towards your students; Secondly, Allow the students build their image on their own-let the students be the stars; and Thirdly, make students ask queries frequently. “Further in his message, he touched upon the value each letter the word ‘TEACHER’ encompasses. To be an efficient teacher one must have an epitome of accepting criticism, internalizing values, accepting our mistakes and above all being a Role model to all students.

Rev Fr Dionysius Vas- the Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, and chief guest of the programme in his speech said,“When you started your 2-year B Ed course I bet it was a mystery for you, but now it has made a history since you have completed the two years successfully, to be better teachers soon. Wherever you go be a spark, make yourself an example for others, mainly your students. Make sure your spark enlighten others. Be the bright spark and light the world with your service and dedication. A good education is the greatest gift you can give yourself or to society. As Education facilitates knowledge, learning, skills and values to society it should not be neglected. The maximum potential to transform lives lies in the hands of an efficient teacher and that’s the reason why teacher’s profession is considered the best profession above all”.

He congratulated the out-going students and said that they were provided with a very congenial atmosphere by the college for them to bloom to their fullest potential. His advice to the students was to do their best for the nation by utilizing their capacities to the maximum and encourage more and more women to pursue higher education in the field of teaching. Rector further said ” And pretty soon that you will be B Ed graduates, and then professional teachers, you will be looking forward to starting your career in the teaching field. Whatever your ambition and goals are, be happy with what opportunities come your way. Work hard with sincerity and dedication and success will be yours. Wish you all luck in your future career and endeavours. May God bless you all”.

We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for dreams… and through dance the whole being depicted the emotions we all intend to express. And for that matter, B Ed student Sindhu and group enthralled the audience by their rhythmic movements set to the vernacular beats. Following the dance, came a song which has the power to make everyone smile and bring also tears-it can also carry us back in time and inspire us to dance in the moment- and with mixed feelings, Fr Nelson and his team performed a farewell song, a perfect tribute to the 44 B Ed seniors!

The programme was graced by various dignitaries on the dais namely- Fr Dionysius Vas Sj-Rector-St Aloysius Institutions; Fr Eric Mathias Sj-Director, St Aloysius B Ed college; Dr Ms Farita Veigas- Principal; Ms Delna Lobo- Vice Principal; Ms Sandhya -Staff Coordinator; Ms Minora Peris, and Fr Clifford Pinto- Student President and Vice-president respectively. As a token of love and gesture to the institution, on behalf of the 44 out-going B Ed students, a cheque for Rs 10,000 was presented to the institution funds by one of the senior students. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sr Benica, and the programme was compered by Vinnie C DaCosta, a first year B Ed student.

While concluding this report, in my perspective, “Teaching is a noble Profession, no other profession can match it, because it stands in the category of building the society. Teachers are the builders of the society. Sometimes teachers think that their duty is only to teach the students and go back but teachers should learn from the students. Until and unless we are not learning from our students we will not be a perfect teacher. Some teachers have the ego that the students should listen to them and not react. When the students react teachers should take it as a lesson and try to learn from it.”

“Sometimes students will teach us how a teacher should be and it will help us to improve our quality of teaching. Teachers should change the teaching methods every day so that students will not feel bored. Sometimes when applications are called for awards, we get a big list of the achievements of the teachers. When a teacher applies for any award, one should look at what is his/her contribution towards the achievement of the students in bringing laurels to the school and not her own achievements. Students achievements should be our reward and that is the best reward a teacher can get in her/his life.”

Ending this report with a very thought-provoking and emotional song lyrics “Chalte Chalte…” by legendary Late Kishore Kumar, which was sung by the students as a Farewell Song to the Seniors :

“Chaltee… Chalte
Mere Yeh Geet Yaad Rakhna
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaaa…. ” Chalte ”
Rote Hanste Bas Yunhi Tum
Gungunate Rahna

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Pyar Karte Karte Hum Tum Kahin Kho Jayenge
Inhi Baharon Ke Aanchal Mein thak Ke So Jayenge(2)
Sapno ko fir bhi Tum Yunhi sajate rehna

Kabhi Alvidha Na Kehna
” Chalte Chalte…”

Beech Rah Mein Dilbar Bichhad Jaye Kahin Hum Agar
Aur Sooni Si Lagey Tumhe Jeevan Ki Yeh Dagar(2)
Hum Laut Ayenge Tum Yunhi Bulate Rehna

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
