EVMs and VVPATs all Set for LS Polls – DC Sasikanth Senthil

Mangaluru: “With regard to the Lok Sabha Elections to be conducted on April 18, the Election Commission of India has taken all the necessary measures. The two-stage Randomization process of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) has taken place on March 20 and April 3 respectively. The VVPAT machines ensure that every vote is verified by the voter himself. We are ready for the upcoming Elections. We expect the voting process to be done ethically, especially by the student community”, said District Collector Sasikanth Senthil in a press meet held at the DC Office here on April 8.

Addressing the mediapersons Sasikanth Senthil said, “EVM demonstrations will be held at various places on April 10 in the presence of BEL engineers and Election Commission Officials. In Mangalore city, the demonstration will be held at Rosario High School in Pandeshwar and Canara High School in Urwa. We have always received 100% participation from the district. In view of the elections, we have deployed over 72 Flying Squads, 25 Video Surveillance Units, and 23 Check posts. Additionally, we have seized Rs 28,10,590, verified the seized amount and returned the cash. We have also seized over 84,181 Litres of alcohol. C-vigil teams have received over 128 major complaints regarding election posters, banners, etc. All of these issues have been addressed.”

Sasikanth Senthil further said, “Voter Slips and Ration Cards will not be accepted as valid ID proofs for voting in the election. There are 11 types of valid ID cards that will be accepted at polling booths, such as Passport, PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Driver’s License, Bank-issued Passbook, Health Insurance Smart Card, Pension Document with Photo, etc. But the safest bet is to bring your EPIC card”.

Towards the end of the press meet, Sasikanth Sentil praised the efforts of the people who formed a human chain on beaches across Dakshina Kannada in a bid to create voter awareness. He also urged the public to turn up for the EVM demonstrations and further exercise their right to vote on Election Day.

ZP CEO Selwamani, DD Sports and Deputy director of Youth Welfare and Sports department Pradeep D’Souza and others were also present.
