Her eyes see after her waiting to see the killers of her son punished!
Mangaluru: This is the sad story of Jayanti Baliga who passed away on the 8th inst. (26-3-1936 to 8-1-2017) she saw her only son Vinayak Baliga an RTI activist die before her very eyes on 21-3-2016 hacked to death by a gang of killers allegedly set up by those who wanted to silence him for questioning irregularities in a number of institutions belonging to his own community.
Right from that day she had been depressed and was worried about the safety of other members of her family. As a lady born in an orthodox family, she wanted her last rites to be performed by her only son. However, her eldest son in law had to perform that duty. Perhaps, these pressures have worked upon her health and she fell unconscious from a massive brain haemorrhage on January 7th and passed away without regaining consciousness. However, the grieving family even in the time of this shock remembered to donate her eyes so that at least two needy persons would be helped.
Now her daughter Anuradha has received a letter that both her corneas have been transplanted so that two people can regain sight. We salute the family who have done this great deed despite their orthodox background and superstitious beliefs that if such is done, the deceased person will be born sightless in the next birth! We do hope that her wish to see the murderers of son punished by the due process of law be fulfilled through the sight of those who have received these transplants.
Hats off to this family, for helping the needy even in times of great grief of bereavement.
