As part of ‘World Entrepreneurs Day’ (WED), Rachana organized “Entrepreneurs Day Celebrations” – a unique evening for businessmen, Professionals and Agriculturists on Saturday, 23 November 2019 from 7:00 pm onwards at Milagres Golden Jubilee hall-Mangaluru. The fun-filled evening comprised of games, prizes, food, music, dance and fellowship- all for a good cause. The purpose of the World Entrepreneurs’ Day was to create awareness for entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership throughout the world.

WED is the perfect day to celebrate the people who start a business alone. WED is the day of founders, managers, producers, contractors, industrialists, innovators, administrators, designers and producers- and for that matter, the audience during this mega event were all of such calibre, who proudly cherished the career that they opted for and accomplish their dreams. World Entrepreneurs Day is a great opportunity to push philanthropic, social and ethical business practices via conferences, awards and initiatives.

Rachana, formed in 1999, is the Mangalorean Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mangaluru- Its objectives are to Represent, Develop, Educate, Honor, Award and Promote the interests of Catholic Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Agriculturists hailing from Mangaluru spread all over the world. Rachana through its Entrepreneur Development Cell has organized workshops, awareness and training camps at various places of the district, and about 600 persons have been motivated, supported and mentored from the entrepreneurship.

Rachana has, over the past 20 years, introduced and taken forward the following activities – to promote its noble objectives, like the: Rachana Awards (Rachana’s Flagship Activity)- to recognize and honour; Rachana Entrepreneur Development Cell – to Develop and Support budding entrepreneurs; Rachana Senior Citizens’ Welfare Trust – to Improve the quality of life of senior citizens; Lecture Meetings – to Congregate, Educate and Inform Members; Publication of “The Rachana World” – A Quarterly Newsletter – to Educate and disseminate information; and Interactive meetings with State and Central Governments. Rachana has been assiduously pursuing the objectives over the past 20 years through regular seminars, training programmes, liaison and lobbying with government and semi-government. Rachana is inviting more members to join and making this Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry grow to greater heights, and become the largest organization in that sector.

Prior to the evening celebrations, in the morning until evening on 23 November 2019, Rachana had organized a seminar on Entrepreneurship at St Aloysius College LCRI Hall, where nearly 500 youth from St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, St Agnes College, Mangaluru and St Joseph’s Engineering College, Mangaluru participated in the seminar. Now coming to the Celebrations that took place on the same day in the evening of the “Rachana Entrepreneurs Day’, the programme began with a prayer song invoking God’s blessings rendered by students of St Agnes College, followed by welcome address by Elias Sanctis- president of Rachana. After the speaker was introduced to the audience, the guest of honour cum motivational speaker of the evening, D B Mehta-Chairperson of CREDAI Mangaluru addressed the audience on being a successful entrepreneur.

D B Mehta said, “While anticipating to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to have competing ideas. Even if you fail once, don’t give up- try, try till you succeed. Success in your business comes through your character, determination, dedication and commitment. There is stress in a business, but you need to cope with it. Don’t take stress too deep – spare some time for your leisure activity. Handle your job at pace and work things up accordingly- and surely you’ll be a successful entrepreneur. If you are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, you are more than likely wondering what it truly takes. There’s no cookie-cutter answer that applies to everyone”.

He further said, “Here are five rules to follow if you want to be a successful entrepreneur: Work smarter, not harder; Hire people to handle tasks you aren’t good at; Get more done and spend less; Don’t be afraid of failing (because you will); and Wake up with purpose daily, and be relentless. Owning your own business gives you a sense of freedom and empowerment. You can build things and watch them grow. Entrepreneurs make decisions for themselves, realize their creative visions and develop lasting relationships with other entrepreneurs, customers and vendors. It’s a great way to live”.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Chief guest Issac Vas- the president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry said, “The goal of KCCI is empowering enterprises and facilitating growth. The Chamber sees things very different from the way a normal citizen look at problems. The Chamber is least bothered about the Pumpwell-flyover, instead the focus area of KCCI for this year under my tenure is- to develop an IT park; to promote tourism; to take cashew industry into high trajectory growth; to have a native start-up centre; to have a alternate dispute centre at the Chamber; and to ensure that the commercial court comes to Mangaluru”

Vas further said, “To understand how we have to work for the development of Mangaluru, we have to understand ourselves first. We are unique people. We have our own culture, our own language, our own cuisines, our own sports, our own calendar, and drinks. We are special. Let me quote what former DEC Sasikanth Senthil said, “Dakshina Kannada is so special that in all aspects and so i=unique that you are eligible to be a City State”. We should remember that we are responsible for our future. When we work for development we should work with a single voice, irrespective of our caste, religion and political leaning. Things will happen, and I am sure that Mangaluru will be nothing short of a City like Singapore”.

On the occasion, Issac Vas was felicitated along with the newly elected MCC corporators- Naveen D’Souza, Lancelot Pinto and Vinayraj A C; and also Joylous Pereira, the D K president of BJP Minority Morcha. Donors were also honoured, whose names were read out by Felix Pinto, the treasurer of Rachana. Following the vote of thanks by Nelson Monteiro, the secretary of Rachana, it was time for a few spot games, where the audience had a chance to win prizes, conducted by Manoj Louis, the compere of the programme. There were auctions, games for young and old- and the evening was nothing but a party time with fun and frolic. And Dj Alan took the audience into a world of music, and a few revellers even got up and shook their hips on the dance floor to the dance numbers belted out by the Dj.

In the “Singing Nursery Rhymes when you were young” game, the prize went to Ms Vanessa Peris; “Oldest Bill in your purse” game, the winner was Ms Selma D’Souza; in the “Seven colour of different Currency Denomination” game, Walter D’Cunha was the winner.
