Farmer Assaulted by Cow Vigilantes while Transporting Cows with Documents

Kundapur: A farmer was attacked by a group while he was transporting cattle with all necessary documents on June 2 at Gulladi near Kundapur. The incident has come to light after three days.

Neelakanta (45) a resident of Shivamogga had purchased two cows from Surendra a resident of Giliyaru near Kota for dairy farming purpose. Before he had purchased the cows, he had obtained proper documents from the Kota Panchayat, and the doctors.

After getting all the documents Neelakanta was on his way to Shivamogga from Kota when the cow vigilantes group led by Thekkatte Bajrang Dal leader Srinath Shetty and others waylaid the vehicle at Gulladi near Thekkatte. The group assaulted Neelakanta with weapons giving threat to his life.

The injured Neelakanta has been admitted to the Kundapur taluk hospital.

The Kota Police have registered a case against Thekkatte Bajrang Dal leader Srinath Shetty and four others and are investigating.

The Gram Panchayats, besides having necessary documents, must keep a suitable aircraft to transport the cows. Its dangerous for farmers to transport cows for their farms by road.
