Fashion Show by Transgenders of Parivarthan Mark II Region Conference of Lions Club
Udupi: The Lion’s district 317C, Region organized II Region Conference ‘Shaasthroktha Sparsha’ at the Ammani Ramanna hall Udupi here on January 26.
The motto of the programme was ‘Divine touch’, where the Regional Chairperson Shashi Kumar Shetty strived to make the event a unique one.
The programme began with an invocation. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp by Regional Chairperson’s mother Premlatha and wife Sharmila Shetty.
Twelve Lions clubs of the region participated in the banner presentation competition with the theme “Nationality and Sovereignty”.
The Rajyotsava awardee Guruva Koraga was felicitated on the occasion. The fashion show from transgenders won the hearts of the audience. Parivarthan Transqueen 2018 Sanjana, second runner-up Srinidhi, Rekha, Priya and Sandhya from Parivarthan Charitable trust walked the ramp and mesmerized the audience.
Region Chairperson Sashi Kumar Shetty read the poem he had written on transgenders before the fashion show from Parivarthan members. Transgenders from Parivarthan travelled all the way from Mangaluru to present the fashion show during the Region Conference of Lion’s Club in Udupi.
Addressing the gathering Sashi Kumar Shetty said, “Today we have invited the transgenders from Mangaluru. Transgenders are beautiful and they are human beings like me and you. Inviting them to such programmes will help bring them to the mainstream of society and make their life easier. They have very good talents, we need to give them the platform to exhibit their talents. A big salute to Violet Pereira for her initiative and concern towards the transgenders and starting a trust for their welfare. I thank Sanjana, Sandhya, Rekha, Priya and Srinidhi for accepting our invitation and performing during our programme.”
Speaking on the occasion Sanjana said, “In 2003, I transformed into a transgender but I faced many hurdles. For 13 years I struggled a lot. In 2016 after we met Violet Pereira she started Parivarthan. Since then we have been slowly accepted in society. We now get opportunities to meet and interact with people. I thank Sashi Kumar Shetty for inviting us here for this wonderful programme. I also thank Mahesh for taking care of us throughout the programme and for the hospitality. Thank you one and all”.
Enlightening speeches were delivered by Srikanth Shetty and Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty on the occasion of the Republic Day. Shetty Indrali, Manohar Shetty of Sai Radha builders and Taranath Mestha, social worker and writer were also present.
The Region Conference was a grand success with a turnout of more than 700 members.
