Mumbai, Feb 18 (IANS) Fashion designer Anita Dongre, who added a dose of ‘desi’ glam with Indian weaves to the ongoing Make in India week with a special showcase, says she is filled with pride to be associated with the initiative.

Dongre, who came up with Grassroot — a sustainable handcrafted contemporary brand from the House of Anita Dongre — showcased a grand opening for the Maharashtra Textile Day at the iconic Prince of Wales museum here on Wednesday as a part of the Make In India Week, read a statement.

“I feel so special and proud to be a part of the show. I showcased at a setting that I regularly visited as a student of fashion design — the iconic Prince of Wales museum. A beautiful venue, a fabulous show and most of all a wonderful audience. The show makes me proud to be an Indian,” Dongre told IANS.

Dongre, who in association with Poonam Mahajan has been working towards elevating and providing sustained employment to Charoti village on the outskirts of Mumbai, presented a show dedicated to the project.

The collection presented supreme craftsmanship in Dongre’s signature style with the organic thread of hand woven and handloomed cottons amalgamating with the artistry of creating ensembles, paying tribute to Indian crafts.

The silhouettes represented impeccable embroidery, traditional flamboyance with models sashaying down the runway in an imperial colour palette ranging from blush pinks to deep vermilions and from soft powder blues to the magnificence of midnight.

The ensembles from the collection are created at Dongre’s eco-friendly design headquarters in Rabale in Vashi, Maharashtra.
