First Case in District against Triple Talaq registered in Kundapur

Kundapur: The first case under the new triple talaq law has been registered in the Kundapur Town Police Station against a man who allegedly divorced his wife through Triple Talaq.

Alifiya (29), a resident of Moodu Gopadi in Kundapur Taluk has registered a case against her husband Haneef Sayyed and her in-laws Abbas, Jaithuna and Haneef’s sister Ayisha.

According to the complaint, Haneef married Alfiya on June 4, 2019. At the time of the marriage, Haneef’s family members had demanded Rs 5 lakh Dowry but Alifiya’s family paid only Rs 2 Lakh. After the marriage, Haneef and his family members started harassing Alifiya for more dowry.

When Alifiya could not bring more money, Haneef and his family members started to harass her. On August 15, Alifiya’s husband pronounced talaq three times and divorced her which Alifiya recorded on her mobile phone.

Alfiya later registered a complaint in the Kundapur Police station with the help of Advocate Ravikiran Murdeshwar. Further investigations are on.
