Udupi: After continues call for Ede Snana, for the first time under the leadership of the Paryaya Pejawar Swamiji, devotees took part in the Ede Ede Snana—a ritual of rolling over the prasadam offered to the deity of Subrahmanya at the Sri Krishna temple on Monday, December 5.

Ede Snana is a modified version of Made Made snana (a ritual of rolling over the food eaten by the upper caste) which has been stayed by the Supreme Court.

During the ritual on Monday, the prasadam was first offered to the deity, which was kept on the plantain leaves, the devotees then rolled over the prasadam. A total of 6 Brahmin devotees took part in the Ede Snana to fulfill their vows. After the Ede Snana, the prasadam was offered to the temple cows.

Meanwhile the Ede Snana was performed at the Sri Muchlukodu Subrahmanya Temple which comes under the Pejawar Math.

Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math speaking to the media persons said, “In the Ede Snana, devotees roll over the prasadam offered to the deity. The prasadam is holy. Hence there will be no problems with the Ede Snana. But with Made Snana, there will always be arguments and controversy. People may say that after rolling over the rice, the rice will be wasted. We are not wasting the rice, the rice will be fed to the cows. For the first time, we have started the Ede Snana in the Krishna Temple and my wish is that it should continue”, added Swamiji.

Subramanya Achar who took part in Ede Snana said that he had been performing Made Made Snana for the last 8 years. This time the temple has started Ede Snana, performing this ritual, I have seen many changes in my health condition”, he said.
